Improving Health Care for All of Us
HOPE members and community advocates are working to increase health care coverage, make health care more affordable, and stand up for the kind of quality care our communities deserve.
Urging the City of Houston to Demonstrate Leadership

When it comes to health care, Houston residents expect local leaders to be part of the solution and we understand the important role the City of Houston has in setting an example for all area employers.
That’s why HOPE members are working to:
Fix the Rising Cost of City Employee Health Care Costs. In the last seven years alone, city employee health care costs have tripled, leaving many employees and their families without health care coverage and countless others with declining real incomes.
Ensure that Tax Dollars Are Spent on Jobs with Health Care. The city has a choice in who it does business with and we can choose to only do business with companies that provide their employees affordable, accessible and quality health care.
Expand health care coverage to the uninsured. In the past year, nearly $2 billion was spent in Houston hospitals on uncompensated care – a cost that is passed along to all of us. That’s why we’re supporting the efforts of janitors and other low-wage earners to gain access to affordable health care. Read the report, “Uncompensated Care” by HOPE affiliate, SEIU.
